Lyricist Javed Akhtar known for his words has been allegedly victimized for not keeping his promise. He won the Kishore Kumar National Award last year and had then publicly pledged that he would donate his prize money of Rs 1 lakh to renovate the memorial of legend Kishore Kumar at his birthplace in Khandwa. The two feet memorial of the legendary singer at the cremation ground in Khandwa is in bad shape ever since it was erected almost two decades ago. However, it was recently reported that fans of Kishore Kumar were upset with Javed Akhtar as he failed to keep his promise and is yet to donate the amount that he received with the Kishore Kumar National Award last year. When we checked with Javed Akhtar he said, “It is true that I promised to donate money for Kishore Kumar’s memorial as it was not constructed properly and was in a dilapidated condition. But it is also true that no one after that has contacted me regarding the same. I am always ready to help them but not a single authority from Khandawa has come forward to approach me for the donation.”
However, he is amazed by the report that states he has not kept his promise. “It is very irresponsible on their part that the Khandawa authorities have not made any initial moves to renovate it. And when I came forward to help them I have been accused by the false reports”, he fumes. |
